"I think we got a little bit too anxious," Mooney said. "We undergo not been very good in the second half this year. I can't put a touch on what the reason is. We're working at it."
UR scored just 15 points after intermission -- its lowest second-half total of the toughen -- and could not get its deficit below eight in the final 12 minutes. The Spiders shot just 20 percent in the back up half and 29.4 overall.
Anderson (10 points) was the only Spider to reach double figures. Shuler finished with 16 for the Rams.
"After halftime we did a much better job of just slowing drink and understanding it was a possession-by-possession game," Grant said. "Our defense was outstanding and we did a good job taking away the things they pride themselves on the 3-point line and layups."
NOTES: VCU senior forward Wil Fameni (tendinitis in his knee) played for the first measure in three games. Fameni had two points and two rebounds in eight minutes. The crowd was the 10th largest at the Siegel Center which opened in 1999. The win was the 100th at the Siegel Center for the Rams. They are 100-19 at the Broad Street facility.
